About Us
In the Fall of 2002, Maxine Bigler set out to find a venue where businesswomen could network and help one another grow their businesses. She was specifically looking for a businesswoman-to-businesswoman atmosphere, because women network and support each other differently from men. After attending several events of this kind in Sacramento and the Bay Area, she believed that it could also be done in Chico, and set out to contact others to help make the idea a reality. The original core committee was made up of six local businesswomen who set the wheels in motion. We found the place to meet and were challenged with having a minimum of 30 ladies attend the events every other month. We agreed to meet every other month in order to keep it fresh and not let it become another commitment that we had to attend. Attendance is optional, come when you can and when you are not in attendance, continue to help spread the word and encourage others to participate and build their business through referrals. Our first meeting was January, 2003, with 70 women in attendance via word-of-mouth. Today, we continue to meet bi-monthly with anywhere from 60 to 100 businesswomen in attendance, and new faces continue to show up at every meeting. During a Women's Business Exchange Luncheon, you will have the opportunity to network with a minimum of 20 ladies and get your business card in their hands. Once distributed, your card will be used for future business or passed on to someone who is looking for your services. It has been very exciting to watch businesses grow and see women become even more successful just by face-to-face networking.
In January, 2005, the Women's Business Exchange hosted an evening event where women could rent space and showcase their business and services first-hand. During the event appetizers were supplied, and networking throughout the room was encouraged. The event was a huge success, and will be held annually in November.
If you are a regular attendee of the Women's Business Exchange Luncheons, we thank you for your support. If you are looking for a way to market your business, we encourage you to come to a luncheon. Our success is because of you and how businesswomen in our community continue to support each other and spread the word. We invite you to come and be a part of something GREAT, the Women's Business Exchange. For more information, contact Maxine Bigler at 343-7163 or Tammy Gregersen at 879-6651. We look forward to seeing you at a meeting soon!
